3 Tips to Using Twitter for Link Building & SEO PDF Print E-mail

Most SEO's, Webmasters, and business owners are under the impression that Twitter is only a good medium to market your website through social media.  Most advanced SEO's know that links coming from Twitter are marked as "nofollow", so they won't affect your SEO Rankings at all.

HOWEVER, there is still some good advantages to use Twitter to improve your search engine rankings.  Here are a few strategies to take into consideration:

1. As of the first of the year (2010) Google is no idexing Twitter "Tweets" on the search engine results.  Using content rich, and keyword rich, relevant posts/tweets can help get your tweets to show up.

2. Reciprocal linking IS NOT DEAD. Contacting other webmasters in related industries/niches as yours, and requesting a link swap/trade can still do wonders for your search engine rankings. Twitter is a great spot to find these potential partners, and contacting them using Twitter is extremely fast & easy.  It's also a better medium than e-mail as it guarantees your message is not sent to a spam folder.

3. Make sure your tweet’s character limits allow for optimal “retweetability.” If you want a message to go virial on twiiter, it is important to keep it under 120 characters so your followers can easily add RT @YourHandle in front of the tweet.

Using Twitter can be an effective tool to increasing your brand visibility as well as your search engine rankings. Having a presense on Twitter will be more important in the months to go, so it's best to hop on this train soon before it passes you by.
